Disney Cruise Line event- DCL’s new Dream Ship
In case you missed it, Disney Cruise Line (DCL- @DCLnews) released the details, videos, and pictures about their new ship called the Disney Dream, at an event in New York City. Imagine that, right here in NYC, and I wasn’t there! Darn… missed it by that much.
There are so many exciting, innovative, and creative features that were announced, that give a one-of-a-kind family experience. There are obvious features that everyone will talk about, but I will pick through the buzz (no pun) and show some of the spectacular items that Disney brings to everything they do. I will try and give you a quick list of the highlights, and then expand on them a little later.
Some are:
- Disney’s Oceaneer Club (Andy’s Room, Monster’s Academy, Pixie Hollow and Disney’s Explorer Pod)
- Oceaneer Lab
- D Lounge- Family lounge- very cool
- Rotational Dining with 3 restaurants (Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, Royal Palace)
- Virtual Porthole for Inside Staterooms
- Expanded Tween, and Teen lounges
- AquaDuck Water Coaster
- Design to evoke 1930’s ocean liners
- Two decks higher and will carry 2,500 passengers (128,000-ton), as opposed to 1,760 passenger (83,000-ton) Magic and Wonder
- Expanded Adult Areas
There is no question what DCL’s focus is, and that is Family Fun. And while I haven’t taken a Disney Cruise yet, this should be remedied soon I hope, it is safe to say that there is no one that can accommodate the complexities and demands of a family cruise, like Disney can. So whether you are a kid, or a kid at heart, a Disney Cruise is for you.
And there are plenty of news agencies out there that are going to focus on the AquaDuck Water Coaster. That is really amazing, and a big focal feature of this ship, but the real strong points of the ship, for our family at least, are the Oceaneer Club, Oceaneer Lab, Virtual Portholes (so we can do more cruising for less money), dining experiences, and larger ship areas.
What I appreciate is that Disney appeals to the practical AND the whimsical. They realize that anyone can ‘cruise’. But the cruise is about enjoying the whole experience with the family, allowing space for each age group to enjoy their peer-associations, and being able to go back, time and time again.
I’ll keep you updated with all of the fun and exciting details as they are released.
The Disney Dream is scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage Jan. 26, 2011
Bon Voyage!
